ACS Australia was established by the Cooperative Research Centre for Advanced Composite Structures (CRC-ACS) in 2008 for the commercialisation of the expertise and the technologies developed by CRC-ACS since 1991, into the broader market.

Cooperative Research Centre funding brings industry and research organisations together, to improve the technological capability of Australian industry. Industries that participated in and benefited from the work of CRC-ACS include Aerospace, Defence, Maritime, Automotive, Trains, Sporting Goods, Renewable Energy and Civil Infrastructure. It is recognised as one of Australia’s most successful CRC's, for the substantial economic benefit derived by its partners and its development of new technologies. The work of the CRC has won several Australian and International awards, including two JEC Composites Innovation Awards and a Business/Higher Education Round Table Award.
