MANAGING DIRECTOR

Professor Murray Scott has over 30 years experience in the field of Aerospace Engineering, and has worked in both industry and academia, mainly in Australia, but also in Germany, Netherlands, UK and USA. He has made major contributions to the development of advanced composite materials and structures, particularly over the past 20 years, and has an outstanding record of achievement in research, teaching and professional activities at various levels.

His many company and academic appointments are fitting recognition of his professional standing, as were his election firstly as President and then more recently as World Fellow of the International Committee on Composite Materials (ICCM).  Since 1994, he has represented Australia on the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) and is now the chair or member of several ICAS committees. Since 2007 he has been chairman of the Research and Innovation Working Group of the Australian Aerospace Industry Forum.

Murray is concurrently CEO of the CRC for Advanced Composite Structures. Under his leadership, CRC-ACS has received a number of Australian and international awards for innovation, including two JEC Composites awards. In his current CRC-ACS position, he is responsible for the leadership of 100 researchers across 30 organisations with a budget of $15 m per annum.

Tony Carolan, BESci, GradDipEngSc, FRAeS

Chairman

Tony Carolan has extensive experience in the Australian Aerospace Industry. He joined Hawker de Havilland (HdH) in 1965 and held a number of roles in Australia and the UK, progressing through various engineering positions to General Manager of all HdH manufacturing operations, systems engineering and pilot training in 1992. He was appointed CEO in 1998. During his tenure he focussed the business on the design and manufacture of aerostructures and the application of composite materials, which led HdH to become an internationally recognised provider of components to most of the major civilian and defence aircraft manufacturers. Following the acquisition of HdH by Boeing in 2001, Tony held a number of roles in Boeing as well as serving on a number of boards.

In 2002 Tony was inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame, which recognises individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to sustained manufacturing excellence.

In 2009 Tony retired from Boeing and joined the board of ACS Australia as Chairman.

Deputy Chairman

Dr Schofield AM is the current CEO of Australian Aerospace and Defence Innovation Ltd (AADI). Dr Schofield spent 37 years in DSTO holding a variety of scientific jobs including First Assistant Secretary Science Policy and Director of the Aeronautical and Maritime Research Laboratory where he was responsible for delivering DSTO’s scientific and technical advice to the Royal Australian Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force. He has been a member of the board of ACS Australia since its inception.
